Dr. K. V. Radhakrishnan Awarded Indo-Finland & Indo-French(IFCPAR/CEFIPRA) project grant

Dr. K. V. Radhakrishnan of the Chemical Sciences and Technology Division, NIIST-CSIR has been awarded an Indo-Finland (DST/AF) project grant. The grant is awarded for conducting a collaborative research program with Prof. Petri Pihko of the Department of Chemistry, University of Jyvaskyla, Finland for a project entitled “Green methods towards pharmaceutically important heterocycles and cyclopentanoids”. The project grant for three years also includes exchange visits of research personnel between the two institutes. The primary objective of setting up of such collaborative research programs is to tap the complimentary expertise between Indian and Finnish scientists working in specific areas of science and technology. The proposed project aims at the diversity oriented synthesis of a number of APIs through catalytic tandem reactions. The seminal challenge for current pharmaceutical industry involves a commitment to scientific excellence by designing synthetic processes for APIs which generates the product economically and efficiently with less waste and side products. At present the synthesis of an advanced pharmaceutical ingredient (API) requires a number of carefully controlled synthetic steps which is not effective, atom economical and environmentally friendly. By utilizing the catalytic tandem reactions, the strategy aims at synthetic efficiency by minimizing the overall and unnecessary burden of all excess chemicals or wastes in the environment.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Dr.K.V Radhakrishnan has been awarded an Indo-French(IFCPAR/CEFIPRA) project grant

Dr. K. V. Radhakrishnan of the Chemical Sciences and Technology Division, NIIST-CSIR has been awarded an Indo-French (IFCPAR/CEFIPRA) project grant. The grant is awarded for conducting a collaborative research program with Prof.Jan Szymoniak of the University of Reims, France on the development of new atom economic transformations and efficient pathways for the synthesis of biologically active molecules. The Rs. 84 Lakh grant for three years also includes exchange visits of research personnel between the two institutes. The primary objective of setting up of such collaborative research programs by IFCPAR/CEFIPRA is to tap the complimentary expertise between Indian and French scientists working in specific areas of science and technology. These projects aim at pooling the expertise of scientists in the two countries for achieving results which would have been difficult if they were working in isolation and are expected to contribute to the mutual benefit of the two countries in particular and science in general
