The Godown & White pepper plant of the Kerala Agro Industries Corporation Ltd. at Sultan Batheri was inaugurated by the Kerala State Minister for Agriculture, Shri. Mullakkara Ratnakaran on 30th May 2010. The white pepper plant of KAICO was set up based on NIIST clean bioprocess. In the function the NIIST Director, Dr Suresh Das made the technology presentation on white pepper production.

Skin free pepper (Piper nigrum L.), known as the white pepper made from matured green and black pepper fetches higher price in the market because of its merits in terms of attractive creamy white colour, decontamination of topically applied pesticides and colouring additives, etc. However, there was no suitable process to make white pepper in bulk. The bioprocess of NIIST supersedes all the prevailing crude methods of white pepper production in the world. Several advantages of this patented process include improvement of the product quality, faster and inexpensive, enables bulk production, easy and pollution free and achieves the by-products, biogas and compost manure.

This plant aims to produce white pepper of about 200 metric tons per annum.
