NIIST Research activities are fully supported by its dedicated staffs in the administration.

With full R&D support, NIIST pursued a wide range of projects and maintained its positive growth trend during the year 2009-10. The R&D activities of the Institute resulted in 203 research publications, filing of 8 Indian patents as well as 9 foreign patents along with a generation of Rs 706.794 lakhs as ECF. The Institute thus maintained its good trend of publishing high quality papers with many of the publications being highlighted in cover pages of prestigious journals. A recent study by NISCAIR showed that during 2008, NIIST achieved the highest average impact factor per paper (2.71) and highest value for papers published per scientist (3.12) among the Chemical Science group of CSIR institutes. Nine network, 81 contract research, 21 consultancy and 5 major in-house projects were undertaken during this financial year. This steady growth is further improved in the 2009 and 2010 years.
