Exploitation of microbial biodiversity for enzyme inhibitors and plant growth promoters:
Forty five plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) were identified (from Western ghats soils in Kerala) and sequenced. From these strains, eight strains showing multiple plant growth promotion attributes were selected and subjected for solid based bioformulation. Studies using these strains in pot experiments in two different kinds of soils (acidic soil having pH 4.0 and alkaline soil of pH 9.0) revealed the presence of some potential strains in both kind of soils (Figures 6, 7). These included novel species, namely, Pontibacter niistensis, Micrococcus niistensis, Paracoccus niistense and Acidovorax niistensis.
