In celebration of five decades of scientific excellence, CSIR-NIIST is proud to host the Golden Jubilee National Conclave on Sustainable Energy Technologies (NC-SET). This landmark event aims to bring together a diverse and distinguished gathering of scientists, technocrats, industry leaders, policymakers, and students to deliberate on the transformative potential of sustainable energy technologies in shaping India’s energy future.
Sustainable energy technologies represent a paradigm shift in the way energy is produced, stored, and utilized, thereby offering innovative and environmentally conscious solutions based on the efficient use of renewable resources. As the world grapples with the dual imperatives of decarbonization and universal energy access, advancements in clean energy, energy storage, and energy efficiency have become critical and key enablers for achieving climate goals, catalyzing sustainability and ensuring ecological balance.
These technologies not only mitigate the adverse effects of fossil fuel dependence and GHG emissions but also reinforce the foundations for a resilient, low-carbon economy. Aligned with the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the two-days Conclave seeks to stimulate technology translation and adoption by fostering meaningful dialogues, cross-sectoral collaborations, and strategic partnerships.
It offers a platform for showcasing cutting-edge research, novel innovations, and scalable solutions that can accelerate the deployment of sustainable energy systems across infrastructure, industry, and mobility sectors. As CSIR-NIIST commemorates its golden jubilee, this conclave marks both a celebration of past achievements and a renewed commitment to advancing sustainable technologies that will define the next era of energy security, environmental stewardship, and inclusive development.
CSIR-NIIST’s remarkable journey began in 1975 with a visionary request from Sri. C Achutha Menon, then Chief Minister of Kerala, recognizing the need for a research institution to harness regional resources and address local industrial challenges.
Officially established as the Regional Research Laboratory, Thiruvananthapuram on October 6, 1978, the institute initially focused on cast metal matrix composites, plantation-based materials, and Kerala's mineral resources.
A significant expansion occurred under Dr. AD. Damodaran's leadership, establishing internationally recognized research in Photochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Process Engineering, and Environmental Technologies. This growth led to the institute's renaming in March 2007 as the "National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology," reflecting its evolution into a center for cutting-edge research.
Today, under Dr. C. Anandharamakrishnan's directorship, CSIR-NIIST operates through six distinct divisions, enabling a truly interdisciplinary approach to research. Our contributions have consistently earned high rankings for research quality and quantity. As we celebrate our Golden Jubilee, we remain committed to balancing fundamental science with industry-relevant technology development, strengthening partnerships, and aligning with India's vision for scientific advancement.
